Void Sessions

In memory of my dear father.
Conceptual memory
Void Sessions is an immersive sonic experience that explores the limits of the listener’s auditory and emotional perception. The piece enters the concept of emptiness in both its physical and metaphorical senses, inviting the listener into a sonic space where the boundaries between the tangible and intangible become blurred.
Void Sessions was produced in the room of my father, who died in 2021, using radios and his radio/television set as its principal sound sources. The work explores the duality between silence and sound, channelling my father’s absent presence and the void left by his departure. It evokes a profound sense of nostalgia and loss, using radio sounds as a bridge between past and present. The piece moves between emptiness and fullness, combining sounds that suggest infinite space and absence with moments of sonic density that fill the environment.
Each sound captured from the radios carries a distinct emotional resonance, reflecting my relationship with my father and the memories we shared in that space. Inspired by domestic sound art and personal experience, the piece becomes an emotional testimony and an intimate exploration of memory, grief and emotional connection. Its sounds evolve and transform gradually, taking the listener on a sonic journey that challenges traditional musical expectations and conventions.
