Hommage à Paul Dukas
Le Tombeau de Paul Dukas is a collective work comprising nine piano pieces in homage to Paul Dukas, composed by Florent Schmitt, Guy Ropartz, Manuel de Falla, Gabriel Pierné, Joaquín Rodrigo, Julien Krein, Olivier Messiaen, Tony Aubin and Elsa Barraine. It was published in 1936 in La Revue musicale.
The music critic of Le Temps praised this “funerary homage”: “In all these compositions one senses an emotion veiled by tears. These artists wish not only to express their gratitude towards a great musician whom they wholeheartedly admired, but also allow themselves to mourn an exceptional person whose exquisite kindness and extraordinary strength of spirit they knew well.”
