A Todas las Imágenes del Mundo
This first sound anthology of canto a lo divino is conceived as a “small audible map” guiding us on a musical and poetic journey through central Chile, from the Illapel River in the Norte Chico to the Maule River in the south. Along the way, we encounter around fifty women and men singers living in remote, almost secret corners of the country’s rural territory. Through their verses and melodic formulas—an inheritance carried through families and the knowledge of a people—they cultivate an art that has persisted exclusively in Chile for more than four centuries. It is practised mainly in domestic ceremonies, where song continues to accompany and venerate little angels, the dead, saints, virgins and crosses as an autonomous, local form of popular devotion.
