Requiem
The work was first performed on 14 March 1965 in Stockholm, with the soloists Liliana Poli, Barbro Ericson and the Choir and Orchestra of Swedish Radio under Michael Gielen. During rehearsals, Ligeti was sent a telegram from the chorus master who entreated him to come at once to Stockholm as they were all “terrified” of the piece.
En palabras del propio Ligeti: “El réquiem no es ni tonal, ni atonal. La composición está más allá, y fuera de ese histórico antagonismo. Diríamos que éste réquiem es una reflexión vanguardista sobre la situación de la música en la época del cromatismo total, aunque también hay paralelamente un regreso a la polifonía clásica de los antiguos maestros.”
En general saca a los instrumentos de registro. Lo hace porque Ligeti quiere conseguir la mayor expresividad ante la muerte.
